TASTING NOTES
As a foundation they used Cabernet Sauvignon for structure, Malbec for a juicy component, Cabernet Franc for fine tannin and length, and Merlot for subtle fruit and finesse. All other varietals in the blend are accent pieces, each adding spice and different fruit characteristics. The barrels selected along with the amount of time spent in barrel brought all of the individual pieces together in a cohesive way.
2018 Niner Wine Estates, Pinot Noir, Edna Valley, CA
VARIETAL
100% Pinot Noir
AGEING
10 months 100% French Oak 27% New Barrel
TASTING NOTES
Niner grows seven different clones of Pinot Noir across fourteen different blocks. Each acre is fermented separately in small open top tanks which results in many unique ‘lots’ of Pinot Noir. The final barrel selection includes a combination of wines that were fermented with whole clusters, dried stems, and destemmed fruit. 20% was fermented natively, lending earthy and spicy characteristics. These methods combine to build a complex and layered single-vineyard wine. .
2018 Miner Family, Chardonnay, Napa Valley, CA
VARIETAL
100% Chardonnay
TASTING NOTES
Sourced from low-yielding vineyards in Napa Valley, Chardonnay is characterized by crisp apple, ripe melon and citrus flavors gently balanced with toasty French oak. The winemaker uses a malolactic fermentation in moderation to retain the wine’s bright acidity. More than a decade after Chardonnay put Miner on the map, this wine remains a classic.
